About
Mission Statement
The Boston College Men’s Soccer Club is an organization designed to allow Boston College students who elect not to play varsity soccer to have an opportunity to play competitively at a very high level. The main competitive season occurs in the fall, but the team will compete on a year-round basis to continue to improve. On the field, this Club aims to establish itself as one of the premier club teams not only within the Northeast, but also on a national level. Inherent in this expectation is the high standard of good sportsmanship, such as was displayed by the award received at the 2010 National Championships for exhibiting integrity and respect on the soccer field. This behavior carriers over from the field. As a representative of Boston College, the Men’s Soccer Club and all of its members understand the importance of carrying itself with class in every aspect of college life. The Club places an additional emphasis on relationships beyond the playing field in order to foster an enduring team culture that will encourage alumni to remain active in the organization. Together the hope is to develop the whole person in conjunction with the Boston College Club Sports, Boston College Athletics, and Boston College mission statements.
What we do
BCFC often begins with a preseason before classes begin in the fall. Tryouts are held during the first week of classes. There are generally between 80 and 120 players that try out for the team. Of these, the team takes anywhere from 6-12 players, rounding out the roster at 30-35 players each season.
In the fall, the team practices 3 times a week on the various facilities at Boston College (Alumni Stadium, Fish Field House, Newton Soccer Field). BCFC competes in the Boston/Providence division of Region 1 Club Soccer. The Region 1 Men's Club Soccer season runs from early September to mid October, and BCFC will fit 10-11 games in this span. A strong season will allow the team to qualify for the Regional Tournament in late October. This has been held in New Castle, DE and Conshohocken, PA in recent years. The team can advance to the National Tournament by winning a semifinal at the Regional Tournament (for Competitive Nationals) or by receiving a bid for Open Nationals. This tournament has been held in Phoenix, AZ, Foley, AL, and Round Rock, TX in recent years.
We hold ourselves to a very high standard on the Boston College Men's Club Soccer Team. We have qualified for the Regional Tournament in 9 of the last 10 years, emerging as one of the winners in 2017. Our training sessions are at a high level, and we constantly strive to be one of the best teams in the region.
In the spring, the team has futsal practices on the MAC courts at the brand new Margot Connell Recreation Center on campus. The team schedules a few scrimmages later in the semester as well.
